From the principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Last day for students will be Friday, May 29th.  Students will dismiss at 11:15 from Beadle, as well as, other middle schools in Millard.  High School students will dismiss at 12:00.  In order to ensure the safety of our students, we need to have all students picked up at Beadle no later than 11:30.  Students will be asked to wait outside for their ride unless the weather is not cooperating with us.  It is very important that you arrange a ride for your child if their usual ride is an older sibling from the high school.  There is a luncheon planned for the Beadle Staff and we need to make sure the students are safely off campus by 11:30.  I appreciate your efforts to make sure all of our students get home safely.

As in the past, there have been parents that purchased a limo ride for their child and his or her friends.  This is fine to do again, but no limos, buses or other larger vehicles will be allowed in the parking lots.  We ask that all limos or other larger vehicles park along the north side of our property on Jefferson Street.  This has worked well in the past and allows cars to enter the parking lot without maneuvering around the larger vehicles.

Students will be engaged up to the last day in their academic studies.  Yearbooks were delivered to the students on May 22nd.  They will have time on the 26th, 27th and 28th to sign their friend’s yearbooks at school.  However, we will not allow students to bring any items to school on the 29th.  This includes their yearbooks.

Report cards will be mailed by June 4.  However, the final grades will be available via the Parent Portal as early as June 3.

We all know this is a crazy time of year for the students.  They are looking forward to their summer break.  For the eighth grade students, they are looking forward to moving onto the challenge of high school.  Each year, some students make poor choices around this time.  Please reinforce with your child the importance of finishing the year on a positive note and avoiding any behavior consequences.  Behavior consequences can and have carried over to the beginning of the following school year.

In closing, this has been a great year at Beadle Middle School.  Our kids continue to excel in their academic pursuits and more students are involved than ever before.  Thank you for your support throughout the year.  Children excel because of strong teamwork between home and school.  It has been my pleasure to serve all of you as the Principal of Beadle Middle School.

CANCER AWARENESS WALK

The Beadle Asset Team will be hosting a Cancer Awareness Walk on Tuesday, May 26th from 3:00 to 4:00 pm on the Beadle track.  The purpose of the walk is to raise awareness about cancer and the number of people the disease affects.  There will be a DJ playing music, a water station, a place to put your backpacks, and sidewalk chalk for participants to write the names of people they know or have lost, due to cancer.  Everyone is welcome to join us.

PLEASE PICK UP YOUR PRESCRIPTION MEDICINES FROM THE HEALTH ROOM

If your child has any prescription medicine at school, the medicine will need to be picked up by an adult on or by Friday, May 29th.  According to district policy, these prescription medicines cannot be given to your child to take home.  However, non-prescription medication will be sent home with your child.  Please watch for these.  Any medication not picked up will be destroyed.  If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Sharon Brisson, Beadle nurse, at 715-6105.

LOST AND FOUND

We have a large collection of lost and found items.  All items not claimed by Friday, May 29th will be donated to charity.

LIBRARY BOOKS DUE

The end of the school is quickly approaching so we are asking that you please check your lockers and home for library books, magazines or other materials that you have checked out and get them returned as soon as possible.  Thank you for helping us to maintain a quality library collection for our students.

LUNCH CHARGES, BOOK FINES, BOOK REPLACEMENT FEES

All fines, charges and fees must be paid in order for students to receive their yearbooks.  You will be notified if your child has been assessed a fine or fee or if your child has a lunch charge.  Not sure if you ordered a yearbook, stop by the office to check the list.

YEARBOOKS

Did you forget to order a yearbook?  There are still Yearbooks available in the office at a cost of $26.00.

LUNCH ACCOUNT BALANCES

Millard Public Schools makes no provision in its guidelines for students to charge lunch.  In an emergency situation, BMS will allow a one time only charge, but this must be paid the next school day.  Student’s lunch account balances (positive and negative) will follow the student to the next school year and school.  If you have a problem with a negative balance, feel free to contact BMS Food Service Manager Ginny Maus at 715-6131.

2009-2010 SEVENTH GRADE PHYSICALS

Nebraska Law requires every seventh grade student to have either a doctor’s physical or waiver signed by you before entering seventh grade in August.  If your child will be participating in sports, they are required to have a physical.  We highly encourage you to schedule your appointments at this time so the requirement is completed before the first day of school.  Seventh Grade Physical Packets were mailed in April 2009.  If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Sharon Brisson-Schnitker, Beadle nurse at 715-6105.

Notes regarding the Dress Code for 2009-2010

In addition to the published dress code on pages 17 and 18 of the 2008-2009 Student Handbook, please refer to these additional notes:

Although one dress code cannot address every student’s needs, some general guidelines for the 2009-2010 school year at Beadle Middle School are:

¨Clothing should be free of graphics, innuendos, and statements that depict weapons, alcohol and other drugs, violence, or sex.  (Red splotches implying blood are not appropriate for school.)

¨Clothing should cover students modestly.  All under garments should be covered.  No short shorts or skirts.  No low tank tops.  No midriffs.  Shoulders, back, and chest should be mostly covered.  (A good guideline for length is that shorts and skirts should extend past a student’s fingertips.)

Thank you for your help in support of our dress code when we return this fall.  We recognize that as fashion trends change, it is sometimes easier to find appropriate school clothing than other times.  The above mentioned dress code helps maintain our focus of each school day:  learning.  Thank you for your support.
