The History of our School

All Millard Schools are assigned a name by the Millard Board of Education. Most Millard elementaries have been named for a famous Nebraskan that is deceased or for the subdivision in which the school is located. The name Walt Disney did not fit either of those categories. It has been reported that in 1974, the year the school was built, a child submitted a request for the school to be named after Mr. Walt Disney. The child stated in her letter that Mr. Disney had done a lot in his life to educate and entertain young people and she felt naming a school after him would be most appropriate. The school board agreed and made a request to the Disney Corporation for permission to use Mr. Disney's name for the new school. For over thirty years now Walt Disney Elementary has served the learning needs of students in the Millard community.
