If the president can’t address our youth, who can?
Across the nation, and here at Millard West, parents have voiced worries that President Obama is trying to indoctrinate America’s youth.

Local sushi restaurant exceeds expectations
At 129th and Maple, Hiro Sushi Imperial Palace is a little out-of-the-way for a Millard West Student. However, after a trip there for a full meal—appetizers, side dishes, and all—I can say with certainty that it is well-worth the trip.

Country icon delivers once again
Brad Paisley delivered another grand slam with his sixth full-blown studio-recorded album that was released June 30, 2009. He balanced slow melodies with songs that have a rocking beat. American Saturday Night features a combination of slow and fast, calm and roaring. Although Paisley is a country artist, his music doesn’t just have the strumming [...]

JBros come back at it again on their 3rd try
The Jonas Brothers are at it again-making 12- and 13-year old girls swoon and sigh over their fashionable looks and teeny-bopper music. They popped out their third CD in the last year, this one being just a tad better than the others; they should be pro’s by now. This all goes to ruins though, when they unleash the melodies and harmonies from their mouths.

As he sat in his maroon swivel chair, one hand resting on his somewhat cluttered desk, the other cupping his clean-shaven face, Rick Hook knew his exact place on the new Millard West staff. Mr. Tiemann called him a superstar, and how true is that? “You’ll never understand everything involved until you sit in the [...]

Not everyone fits the template
I’ve applied for the NHS–the National Honor Society–twice, once in my junior year and once in my senior year. The application is divided into several sections, based on the Four Pillars of the NHS: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. Both of mine looked pretty good; I consistently get good grades, I’m in the youth band at my church, I volunteer and do community service, and I’ve even reached the rank of Eagle in Boy Scouts.
Apparently, all that wasn’t enough; NHS turned me down both times, not because of what I had on my applications, but what I didn’t have.

Red light. Time is ticking. The lines at the stoplight at 176th and Q Streets are backed up nearly to the stop sign almost a block back. That day there are about 40 kids coming into school for first block late, yet they received no mercy. During the first two weeks of school, there [...]

Jobs, school, and activities pile up
The sun is rising, climbing into the sky and illuminating Millard.
As the first rays of light trickle over the horizon, the majority of the Millard West student body is either still sleeping or just waking up. As they move about in the morning twilight, grinding sleep from their tired eyes, the students prepare for what they believe to be a hard day’s work.
