Varsity, junior varsity ‘hoping to finish on a positive note’

Karina Marin is ranked 3rd for JV tennis at Millard West, and she hopes to stay on the top end through the rest of the season.
The Millard West girls JV tennis team has been playing matches consistently over the past few weeks. With just two matches left this season, the team is hoping to finish on a positive note.
Sophomore Karina Marin is in her first season on the tennis team.
“I’ve learned a lot of rules, how to serve, and just how to play, since this is my first year playing,” says Marin.
Marin is ranked third in singles on JV, and just recently, her and her partner Lauren Elsberry moved up to first rank in doubles.
The rest of the season for Millard West tennis is as follows: Tuesday, May4th, varsity plays at home against Fremont and Wednesday, May 5th, JV is hosting the Bellevue East/Millard North Triangle. Thursday, May 6th, varsity will be at Marian High school, while JV finishes their regular season hosting Marian at Millard West.
Varsity will finish the season with one more invite, the Millard North Invite, on Saturday, May 8th. Following their last tournament, Metros will be held on May 12th and 13th—times and locations TBA. After Metros are finished, state starts on Thursday, May 20th and continues through Friday, May 21st. State will be held at the Koch Tennis Center.
“It’s been really fun. I’ve met a lot of new people on both varsity and JV. I think I will [play next year again] because it’s been a good experience,” says Marin.
