Millard West, the defending state champions for soccer, will have to enjoy the finals from the sidelines this year after losing to Creighton Prep 2-0. The Wildcats lost in a closely played game in terms of possession, but could not stop Prep and their quick ball movement.
“Overall, I thought that the possession was 50-50″, said the sophomore John Lee. “But they finished their chances and that’s something we couldn’t do.”
On Tuesday May 18th, the undefeated Omaha South team took on the Lincoln East team at Morrison Stadium. The game was just moments after Omaha South’s graduation, which caused the game to be delayed until 8:15. Lincoln East defeated South in extra time with a final score of 4-2. After this state championship victory, Lincoln East has now tied the record for the most Class A state soccer titles.
Now that the season is over, East and the rest of the Nebraska high schools can prepare for the long off-season and return to their club teams.
