Hair Today.
Gone Tomorrow
T he hair craze that swept America this
past year was definitely felt in Millard
with a change in hair styles.
With the popularity of punk rock and a
growing interest in individualism. hair style
trends went from long hair in the 60's and
70's to the short "buzzed" hair of the SO's.
Many students succumbed to the calling.
It started out in the West and caught on like
wild fire. Every hair style turned out as
unique as the individual.
Every year as the state swim meet rolls
around. swimmers shave their heads. Well
this year many people beat the swimmers to
the punch.
It was not uncomn:ton to have seen
students walking down the hall with little or
no hair. The wrestlers and baseball players
got in on the act this year too.
A few wrestlers had their head shaved
towards the end of the season. and the
basketball players had a barber come in and
cut everyone's hair before the Millard South
game.
The new hair cut styles ranged from
Detroit cuts, which were short in front and
on top and long in back, Knuckle cuts, which
J had hair cut to knuckle length. Mohawks and
basic crew cuts also were fashionable.
Even though some cuts were short in
front and long in back, and others were long
in front and short in back, it seemed the less
hair you had. the better your haircut was.
Showing good sportsmanship is Sophomore Tony lopes - Jon Steen
who is the first swimmer to lose his hair at a February
pep rally in preparation for the state meet.
