Three-Four!! "
Senior Drum Majors Andrea Allen and
Kevin Reid shouted this phrase in unison
countless times during marching season to
direct the band to begin playing. This is how
the marching band started out at pre-
games. half-time shows and contests. Most
students favorite part of being in band was
the marching season because " having to
pay attention to where we were going
while playing an instrument added an extra
element of challenge." said Senior Greg
Oswald.
Another good reason to like marching
season was because of the fact that they
received a Division " 1" rating at all of the
competitions they attended. including the
state contest in Lincoln where they had
never received higher than a " 2" before.
According to Senior Tracy Johnson. this
competition was " one of the highlights of
the year."
Another highl ight of the year. at least
for 80 musicians. was being selected for the
new symphonic band. A change was
made with the divisions of the band into
two groups: the top musicians being
placed in the symphonic and the rest being
in concert band. instead of a 9th grade.
and a 10th through 12th grade band. An-
other change was the addition of a 13
member flag corps that Band Director Jim
Johnson said " did really well."
The string orchestra was also busy with
concerts and accompanying at musicals .
Director Stan Ivy thought that they "really
improved a lot this year."
Both the band and the orchestra al-
lowed their participants to become more
involved in the school. "Band was exciting
because I could also be a part of football.
basketball. and pep rallies ," agreed
Oswald. Perhaps Johnson summed up be-
ing involved in instrumental music the best
when she said that it " developed a lot of
personal pride through musical accom-
plishments." J.'Q
