"Being in the playoffs felt like every other year; we didn't really know anything different," junior Tim
Weak said of the varsity team's ability to make it to the playoffs for the sixth straight year.
"It felt real good, just like it has done the last few years. Making it to playoffs for the sixth year; that's
unprecedented in this state," head coach Fred Petito said.
The team worked hard to overcome the odds, make it into the playoffs and end with a record of 8-4.
" It was a huge moral victory to get back into the playoffs," senior Kurt Stork said.
A 40-35 win against Bellevue West put the varsity boys in the running against undefeated Lincoln South-
west. After a unsettling first half, the Mustangs bounced back to win in the longest playoff game in state
history, finishing it off in the fifth overtime 51-45.
"Despite what anyone would have thought, we came back from a 21-0 deficit and showed our strength as
a team when we won," Weak said.
Intense training and a strong work ethic perfected off the field laid the groundwork for a formidable and
                    ambitious team.
"Our team this year was so young, but they grew quite a bit," Petito said. "It was hard, slavish work,
preparing for such a physical sport, but it made the guys better players."
The JV team also ended their season with a strong record of 6-2. Wins against Creighton Prep and Mil-
lard West helped the team gain experience and develop their talents.
"We got the plays down and stopped teams from scoring," junior Brian Newton said.
The JV players came together as a team to turn out an impressive season.
"Throughout the season, we gained a team attitude and realized our strengths and weaknesses," sopho-
more Caleb Martin said. "It definitely showed where the team was at going into next season."
