Volunteers  Reap


               Rewards



                 nsanity?  Craziness?  Stupid-
               I
                 ity?  Is  working without pay
                 sheer  idiocy?  Could  it  be
               worth all  the hard  work  and
               effort put into it?
                   Students  who do this  in-
               sane  job  are  volunteer
               workers.  Most  jobs  are in  the
               areas  of  hospitals.  teaching.
               helping  handicapped, and
               giving blood.
                   Not just anyone can get a
               volunteer job. Senior  Margaret
               Phares.   who    helps   han-
               dicapped. and retarded chil-
               dren swim.  and also  works  at
                                              -
               the  University  Hospital  said,
               "getting a  volunteer job is  just  ..
               as  hard  as  getting a  regular
               one.  You  nave to apply and
               interview  for  it,  and  have
               experience and qualifications.       ....
               It's  not that easy."
                   Why  would anyone want
               to  spend  a  lot  of their  time
               doing hard work  for  nothing?
                   Sophomore Pam  Dodson,
               who candy stripes  at Nebras-
               ka Methodist  Hospital says  that
               there are a  lot of rewards in
               her  job.  "It really  makes  me
               feel  good  about  myself  by
               helping  people. I  think  that's
               worth it."
               Splashing  through  the  water.  han-
               dicapped kids  learn to swim  with  the
               core of Senior  Scott Geer and Social
                Studies  teacher Denny  Owens.

               Methodist Hospital.
