What's your
definition?
W
ebster defines a purse as "a
receptacle (as a wallet) to carry
money and often other small
objects in." But ask a group of people who
carry one around every day to define their
purse and Webster's definition seems
general.
"A small glove compartment that only
carries the essentials." Well sure but what
are the essentials? Money, identification,
comb and keys are some basic items but one
person may not want to leave their house
without an extra pair of nylons (just in case
they get a run.)
"It's like a magnet that holds things
when you have no other place to put them."
Some of the strangest items people carried
around were socks, a half eaten sandwich
and a Harlequin Romance.
There are many things to consider when
defining a purse. It needs to say it is durable
to hold all the junk, a perfect accessory to
match up an outfit plus being a combination
lunch box, suitcase, wallet. toolbox and closet
all at the same time.
You never know when a few of these things will come
in handy in this typical teenage purse which just took
a spill.
