Debators
eeping a good record was difficult, but the
K sweepstakes first place in four separate
debate team managed it. They won over-all
tournaments.
What were these students debating about?
They were arguing about whether or not the
government should protect the quality of water.
"This year's topic was fun because of the wide
variety of subjects that fell under it." said Sopho-
more Chris Moorhead.
It wasn't as simple as it sounded, though.
Students had to write speeches supporting the
resolution as well as one opposing it. For most this
meant long hours of research.
"I think spending all that time in the library was
worth it because you get as much out of an activity '
as you put into it", was Junior Greg Brown's opinion
of the hard work. Brown felt that in order to enjoy
a debate, it was necessary to research a great deal.
Eventually, it was evident, the long hours were
worth it. Most debaters reaped the rewards of hard
work at the several tournaments they attended. The
team had several methods that helped them to do
well in rounds. One way that helped was psyching
themselves up before a tournament. Another way Debate: front row - Lynn Vickroy, Michelle Petersen, Jenny
