New Class
Helps More
Get In Shape
' ' T
hink about if you like to run to get
in shape," was the advice Sopho-
more Andrea Raker gave students
who were considering taking Aerobic Activities
class.
This was a new class offered for sophomores
and freshmen in the physical education depl'lrt-
ment. In this class students engaged in running
around the gym--sometimes up to twenty times--
or getting into groups and jumping rope for an
entire period. They also made up their own
aerobic dance and exercise routines and watched
video routines by Jane Fonda.
Opinions varied on Aerobic Activities clas-
ses. "They work people too hard," said Sopho-
more Jeanne Hieb. Other students enjoyed the
class for different reasons. "Since I don't like team
sports this was a good option for me." was
Sophomore Cindy Pritchard's reason for support-
ing Aerobics.
The standard PElO and PE9 classes provid-
ed a variety of activities for sophomores and
freshmen. During one semester, students had the
opportunity to participate in such sports as
softball, soccer, volleyball, badminton and basket-
ball.
Juniors and seniors had many choices for
physical education too. For...students who enjoyed
water activities there were Swimming or Lifesav-
ing and Water Safety classes. In these classes
students participated in diving, water sports and
advanced swimming.
Other 11-12 classes offered were Lifetime
and Fitness, Advanced Team Sports, or Weight
Training and Conditioning. These classes offered
aerobics, golf, jogging, tennis, volleyball, basket-
ball, soccer and weightlifting.
Whether freshman or senior, students had
many options to improve their physical well-being
through these course offerings .
