or the first time in school history. the
boys and girls gymnastics teams both
qualified for the state meet and finished
in the top four teams.
The boys claimed fourth place with
strong showings from Freshman lance Hoff-
man on the pommel horse (third) and the par-
allel bars (third) and Sophomore Phil Eberlein
on the vault (fifth).
"On their first try at state, the boys team
acted like veterans," said Coach Ric Heine-
man.
The girls squad also took third place at
state in team scoring. Junior Christy Flugum
was the uneven bars champion and took fourth
in the floor exercise and the vault which quali-
fied her for fifth in the all-around. Junior
Cindy Pritchard also tied for fifth in the vault.
For the season, the boys claimed a 5-3
dual meet record and took first at the Thomas
Jefferson Invite and second at the Art Harris
and Millard South Invites. The team also was
consistent at Metro and Districts, where they
finished second in both meets.
Finishing the season with a strong 7-2 re-
cord, the girls squad claimed second at the
lincoln East Invite, fourth at the Millard South
Invite, and swept the championships at Metro
and Districts.
"We improved a lot," said Senior Bridget
Lammers. "We were more consistent and
we had to work harder at being a team with
such a big squad."
However, this was no problem for the
team since Coach Heineman said, "This defi-
nitely was the best girls team and the best
overall team I have had." IN
