T
he JV and Freshman girls teams both
could boast about their strong defense
that brought them to winning records
for the season.
"Our strong point was our defense," said
Coach Terry Thielen. "We only yielded 30
points a contest."
This strong point helped the JV claim a
10-6 record. The "toughest" opponents, ac-
cording to Thielen, were Omaha Central, Pa-
pillion, Fremont, and Millard South. Turning
over the ball was also a weak point claimed
Thielen.
However, strong points in the team were
Junior Dana John and Sophomore Andrea Shaw
said Thielen. John was lead scorer and lead
rebounder for the team.
The freshman team's weak point was a
height problem. However, Coach Vicki
Marquardt said, "We were a very quick team.
Our overall strong point was a real good de-
fense on both the "A" and "B" teams."
These good characteristics led the "A"
and "B" teams to 10-5 and 10-.2 records respec-
tively. The majority of their losses came
from Millard South and Omaha Gross.
Those losses, however. did not stop cer-
tain players from showing their talents. The
most consistent scorers were Freshmen Dawn
Hottovy, Kairi Backer, and libby Officer,
claimed Coach Marqu.ardt, while Freshmen
Tina Melander, Jenny Junk, and Amy Gordon
were the best defensive players.
When asked about the season, Coach
Marquardt said, "We had a lot of fun, played
the real good teams in our league closely, and
overcame some injuries and illnesses to finish
the season with a strong record." tN
