From cutting down trees to global
flooding, or from "red spread" to thermo-
I nuclear war, thEr debators could always
find an interesting topic to link to this year's
resolution, which dealt with Latin America.
Again, the team had a winning season.
In awards ceremonies at tournaments. one
could always hear mumbled sighs of
"Millard North" from other schools right be-
fore the sweepstakes trophy was an-
nounced. The team had definitely estab-
           lished a reputation.
There was just cause for this . Accord-
ing to Coach Scott Milliken , "The squad
took first place in over 10 major invitational-
type tournaments." The team also won
           countless individual honors.
Two people who received such indi-
vidual honors were Seniors Chris Moorhead
and Mike LeMay. They qualified to go to
           the National Forensics League Debate
Tournament in July held in Nashville ,Tenn.
Although at first glance it may have
seemed as though debate was an individ-
ual activity, the students worked hard to
make tournaments a team effort. They
traded and shared everything from evi-
dence to strategies to plans, to just plain
           advice. "We discussed certain opponents
to be faced, judging criteria, and kinds of
judges preferred or not preferred," said Mil-
liken. Junior Jon Blumenthal agreed, "I'm
glad my partner. Senior Doug Macdonald,
and I had a opportunity to help the team,
and that the team did so well."
               Sophomore Jenny Newhouse summed
it up by saying that when she and her part-
Gathering evidence, Freshman Julie Gniffke and
ner. Sophomore Sarah Stout, won trophies. Sophomore Jennifer Szy nskie prepare for their next of-

body else's and winning sweepstakes really entire round. (P . Mahoney)
           made all  the work worthwhile.··_}
