They gave up their tree time. They sac-
rificed almost every weekend from No-
vember until April. They were found roam-
ing the hallways of strange schools. Were
they crazy? Were they under the power of
a voodoo spell? Were they the long lost
descendants of an ancient tribe of self-tor- I
ture fanatics? No. They were the bricks in
the wall. (Translation: the competitors on
the forensic team.)
Coach Terry Peterson said. "It was in-
side each person to get fired up about for-
ensics. We could find the path to becoming
a great competitive speaker. but we
couldn't make them follow it. It was a force
within each person that made them follow
it. Our team stayed fired up all year."
Last year's record of obtaining 150 tro-
phies was met and passed. Peterson
said, "It was always nice to win . but we
didn't need trophies to prove our quality.
The real value was the ability of the kids."
"What did they do?" one may ask.
They did everything from cleaning Mr. Floor
to memorizing the back of Wheaties boxes.
