.1 ith the departure of Coach Bruce
Carr and many strong swimmers and divers
~ having graduated last year, the future of
              the two teams was questionable.
                  However, as Coach Dan Murphy
stepped into Carr's shoes, it seemed obvi-
ous that although this would be a year to
start over, it would also be a strong year.
" This was definitely a rebuilding year for the
team. We just didn't have that many expe-
rienced divers," said Junior Debby Bosse .
At the Metro tournament, the boys fin-
ished sixth, while the girls finished first . At
State, the boys finished eleventh, and the
              girls took third place.
Although the teams did well, individual
members of the girls team were also suc-
cessful in setting new records for the
school. Freshman Karrie Swanson set the
new record for the 200-yard freestyle,
while Junior Stacy Friedlund set the 200-
              yard individual medley record. Sophomore
Jenni Horner set a record in the 100-yard
              breaststroke, and the 400-yard freestyle
relay team of Swanson, Sophomore Kristen
Kearns, and Juniors Stacy Friedlund and
Beth Stewart finished first at State in that
              event.
Overall, Murphy said "the season was
great and we just had a ball this year. My
goal was to develop every swimmer and
to have each hit their best time at the State
meet. I saw an improvement in each one
of them. All of the kids who qualified for
State swam their best times, which pleased
           ....
            ' me." _/
