Freshmen Run
With Varsity
in Practice

espite a shortage of members, the
freshmen track team did better then sever-
al of the previous teams.
In addition to many other acomplish-
ments, they were the first team to win the
freshmen conference since 1983.
As Coach Michael Neemann said,
"Freshmen did well considering there were
only nine of them. They scored quite a few
points for so few numbers. There were sev-
eral top scorers and they did well individual-
ly . We just needed more bodies."
One reason for this success was the
policy of having the freshmen practice with
the varsity team. It was the first time that
it had been done.
Freshman Jason Brehmer said, "I think
it helped me a lot, I got more experience
and I learned to pace myself running
against the faster boys."
Neemann explained saying, "If you run
with better people you do better yourself."
The freshmen, however, were not the
only ones who had a successful season . The
varsity team also did well despite many in-
juries .

" The team also won two of their three
/ duals, including a win against Millard South
77 -64.
Senior Paul Milone gave the credit for
the teams success to the coaches, saying,
"We did well considering all the injuries we
had. We owed it all to our great coaches
for the good job they did."
The boys' track did do well. Mark Arel-
lano, Andy Brueckner, Mark Canada, Paul
Milone, and the 400 relay all made it to the
state finals . _/
