Team Plays
at State Due
to Wild Card
W
hen the team gained the wild
card in the state tournament at Lincoln
South East . Coach Ron Johnette fullfil led his
plan for the season .
In his opinion. the regular season was
a time to practice so that the team could
play their best at the tournaments.
As he said. "It was a nice challenge to
be playing in any tournament."
The team was up to the challenge.
and they won the Millard Invitational. In ad-
dition. they ranked between fifth and
eighth in the state.
They only lost half of their members to
graduation so Johnette expected them to
be no different next year.
Although most of the pitchers graduat-
ed. the younger pitchers will gain plenty of
experience throwing over the summer. Ac-
cording to Johnette this should allow them
to keep up the kind of playing that led to
a current season of 14-7 .
The JV team had a winning season of
their own. They finished the season 12-2.
This was largely due. as Coach Jeff Alfrey
said. to the team's attitude. "Even those
that didn't get to play were really into the
game." he said.
Sophomore Rob Krause summed it up
saying, " We lost the fifst game but we jum-
ped right back in. Overall we really had a
good attitude about winning." -../
