August Comes
Too Quickly
Summer had a way af ending before if
started. Just when late nights and even lat-
er mornings had become a comfortable
routine, August rolled around. As the month
progressed, the feeling that the hot days
and warm nights were numbered pro-
duced a sinking feeling in the stomachs of
students and teachers alike. Everyone
knew the end had finally come when the
August newsletter arrived. The mad rush for
school supplies and clothes began.
The first day had a little something for
everyone. The uppercle:~ssmen wondered
why the freshmen didn't have to go for the
first half of the day so that they could sleep
in . The freshmen wondered if they would
ever survive the first week. All in all , it was
a promising beginning.
At the end of the week, after emer-
gency cards had been collected, the ma-
jority of MOC/OC cards distributed, and
driving permits and activity tickets pur-
/ chased, memories of summer seemed far
/ away. Renewing ties with old friends and
acquaintances and establishing new ones
gave hope that the year might just be
bearable, if not actually fun . Anticipating
school activities such as Spirit Week, Home-
coming, football games, and the Hall Dec-
orating Contest eclipsed some of the more
monotonous aspects such as early morn-
