1 The hard work that they put in definitely paid off at game time. The
reserve team demolished nearly every school they played. However,
sometimes there were disappointments.
"Losing to Millard South was tough. We didn't play very well. We
should have beat them," sophomore Dan Hoppen said.
However, those types of games only made winning that much
sweeter for the reserve team.
In the team's last game of the season against Omaha Central, it
was a game to remember. The Mustangs were down by seven with a
minute left. According to Lundgren, "not even their own mothers gave
them a shot to win". Within 60 seconds, the team came back to tie. In
the last 1.9 seconds, a three-point play won the game 58-55.
"It was so cool because we came back with this huge deficit and
won the game," Happen said .
Coached by Fred Petito and Andy Hahn, the freshman boys proved
that they also had the drive and desire needed to be competitive.
"The coaches expected great things [of players]. Any small mistake,
and it could be over," freshman Tyler Hoffman said.
With a 9-8 record, the freshmen team achieved a winning season,
yet it suffered a few losses.
"It was hard to bounce back after a loss. We knew the losses would
come; we just had to get better," freshman Ryan Muehling said.
Both teams acco!Tlplished their winning seasons through
dedication, drive, and a love for the game.
"I just love to play," freshman Tony Walters said with a smile.
