--+-J that dry spell . Even though the Mustangs lost in the first round to No.1 seed Bellevue West
It had been 15 years since the varsity team made it to state, but this was the team that broke
c it was a sweet achievement that capped a 12-10 final season record.
'"I was drea.!lling about it ever since I was in sixth grade. It just feels good knowing you can
it. It was a relief,'" senior Roy O'Neil said.
Junior Adam Muehling led the Mustangs in their valiant effort with 12 points, while seniors
0 O'Neil and Mike Wade each had ten points in this historic game .
'"Our plan was to challenge their guards defensively. We wanted to make it a low scoring
game, in the forties or fifties. I have to tip my hat to Bellevue West. They were a great team
they made big plays in the fourth quarter,'" Head Coach Chip Bahe said.
In order to qualify for state the team had to defeat number three seeded Benson, and did
46 in districts.
The JV team finished its season 17-2 which was the best JV record in school history .
'"When we (JV) lost we had to look back at what we could have done better, and we made
some changes, so it didn't happen again,'" junior Kyle Coury said.
The season for both teams brought encouragement for next year.
'"This year was obviously a big step for the players and the student body. It makes you want
back (to state) next .. Coach Bahe said.
