With many changes being made, the fall play found new direction.
New talent. New directions. New director. Eve rything within the theate r
department see med like it could be summed up by the word "new." Long-
time director Mark Hawkins stepped down from his role as play coordina-
tor, opening up a highly coveted pos ition, w hi ch was filled by Michelle
Williamson.
"It was a diffi cult show for me to sta rt off with beca use it was all panto-
mime. It gave the actors a chall enge with conveying sce nes and objects with
their bodies," Williamso n sa id.
Along with a new director ca me a plethora of fres h faces, all eage r for a
chance to take the stage and prove themse lves through their pe rformances .
"I rea ll y wanted to make a good impress ion on everyone. It's hard
co ming to a new sc hool and not rea lly kn owin g anyone, and I felt like the
'th eater ki ds' were my in," freshman Justin Couch sa id.
Despite the difficult transitions be ing made, veteran performers in the
cast of Our Town used their outgo in g nature to welcome staff and students
alike.
"W e kn ew it would be tough for her [Ms. Williamso n] to sta rt a new po-
sition, so we wanted to make it as easy as poss ible for her. Her new direc-
ti on sty le was different to get used to, bu t it was worth all the effort," se ni or
Libby Cunningham sa id.
With new steps be ing taken towards the future of the theate r depart-
ment, perform ers and directors alike quest ioned what lay ahead. Perh aps
one word could describe how it all looked: promisin g.
