hough student life , class spirit, and
T
athletics were ways to promote achieve-
ment, academics was also an area in
wh~ to set and meet goals.
Without academics the other three areas
would not have existed; it was the core of
everything.
So maybe the administration didn't dress up
like orphans and perform on stage or take the
entire student body out for pizza. That didn't
mean they didn't care.
Likewise, bake sales and hall decorating
contests weren't used to show whether English
classes had more spirit than social studies classes.
However, they didn't mean teachers didn't
attempt to make class periods more exciting.
Even though a good grade in a class didn't
mean television news coverage, as an important
athletic win sometimes did, it didn't mean
students didn't try.
Academics just provided students and staff
with another area in which to shine-in which to
Paint the Town.
