                   -Jenny Winkler-

Suspense filled the air of the
         auditorium as the audience watched
"Dirty Work at the Crossroads". Would
the train really run over the heros,
         Mookie Maguggins and Adam
Oakhart? Or would the evil Munro
Murgatroyd finally get what was com-
ing to him? These were questions that
came up at the climactic finale of the
melodrama. It was obvious that the
togetherness of the cast and hard work
         was what pulled everything together.
Because it was a smaller cast, it
was easier for the group to become very
         close. As Freshman Elizabeth Hunter
stated, "There were a lot of brother-
sister relationships; we were one big
happy family!" Elizabeth was also the
only freshman in the cast, and she
thought it was helpful that the older
          members gave her advice.
                 Although rehearsals got to be
long, the cast always believed in each
other and encouraged one another, and
that brought the whole thing together.
         Junior Mike Richhart, who played
Adam Oakhart said, "Everyone put in
suggestions on how to do a scene, and
then we tried each way and decided on
         the best one."
                Many of the scenes brought
much laughter, such as the slow-mo-
         tion fight between Nellie Lovelace
(Senior Tris Jacob) and Munro Mur-
         gatroyd (Junior Chris Duffek). Ideas
for such scenes came up during re-
         hearsals, and Tris said, "Sometimes
messing around would just turn into a
         funny scene."
Olio acts between scenes and at
          intermission were also an important
part of the show. The Can-Can girls,
the Junebugs, the Barber Shop Quartet,
and many others provided the audience
          with entertainment that was popular
          during the 1890's.
                 Not only did the melodrama
provide fun and laughter for the audi-
ence, it also proved that hard work and Robert Bruland Lori Burright Christina Cannon Jennifer Chalupnik Christopher Clay
