                    -Tanya Patry-
Yalentine's Day did not end on Febru-
ary 14, not for anyone who attended the Student
Council's "Eat Your Heart Out" dance on the
         fifteenth.
                Sophomore Beth Weindel said, "It
wasn't one of those run-of-the-mill school
dances-people were actually getting in to it."
The main thing that made this dance
different from the rest of the school dances was
that the entertainment was made up of live
bands rather than a DJ. While it was agreed that
the evening was "more of a concert than dance,"
as Junior Paul Jacobson said, everyone seemed
to be having a great time. "Having bands from
our own school let everyone see the talent that
tbey had," said Senior Tris Jacob.
Menagerie, a band made up of MN
students, opened up the evening with an II song
set of music that they called "a earth-shattering,
lighthearted mix of jazzy, bluesy, jungle-funky,
educated rock and roll, " which is shown in their
own "Sandwich Song", a light-hearted story
that tells of a man who goes crazy because he
         can't find anything to eat.
                 Second up came Legacy, another
school band made up of Seniors Chris Saub,
Brian Hanison, Dan Hayes, and Junior Ethan
Silrum. Saub and Harrison agreed that the
opportunity for three bands to get together was
a great one. "I think all of our hard work really
paid off. To put it mildly, we kicked #@ !%$#!"
         said Saub.
By the time that the final band, House
of Commons, hit the stage the atmosphere was
electric. The crowd lost its shyness and "moshed"
as much as was allowed at a school function, and
         then some.
                House of Commons included Sopho-
more Matt Solberg, Freshmen Dave Allen,
Mike Howard, Scott Brown and Mike Haine
(Millard South). They played a few songs of
their own and several covers, the favorite of
most being their rendition of the Cure's "Loves-
         ong".
Even with a few minor problems with
the amplifier connections, the night went well.
Commented Dave Allen, "Matt(Solberg) and I
had problems within ourselves all the way up to
the night of the dance, but everything seemed to Wendy Sutton Troy Thompson Joel Toney Roxann Vanecek Danny Watkins
come together when we got on stage." The ·Tammy Swartz Michael Thomson Amanda Torrens Chad Vaneperen Jonathan Weaver
dance ended on a magical note and was a night Anthony Swetala Bob Thune Tony Tuttle Matthew Venn Curren Webb
to remember, as Allen said, "If you couldn't Theodore Swircek Darren Timberlake Lindsey Tyler Jeremy Vlieger Jack Wei
                                                 Jodi Szynskie
                                                                 Mark Timm
                                                                                  Nathan Underwood
                                                                                                  Jennifer Yolk
