: Although the summer was short, :
• students still had time to fit in a few exciting •
• trips. Some traveled the U.S. ·as others •
• •
• ventured across the world. Some went with •
• school groups, youth or church groups.Others •
• •
• went to special places for service projects, •
• and some went just for fun. Whatever the •
: reason, they found themselves exploring and
• meeting new people.
Church-sponsored groups went to
such places as New York, Colorado, and
Mexico. "I went to FCA leadership camp,
and I learned a lot about myself while meet-
ing a lot of people that I can now keep in
touch with," Senior Kathy Dowse said.
Senior Joel Hinsey also went on a church
trip, although hi s was for service. He went to
inner city Queens in New York City to feed
the homeless for a week. "It really showed
: me what a little hole we live in here in
• Omaha, and that there is so much out there •
: we don't realize," Hinsey said .
.! Students who traveled out of the
: country also experienced what else is out
• there. Senior LeeAnn Re went tQ Australia
: and New Zealand with People to People, a
• student ambassador program. "We spent the
: trip sight-seeing. We got to see the new
• parliament house, but the most important
• part of the trip was how close everyone
•
• became," Resaid. Other students traveled to
• Israel, Mexico, France, and Germany .
• These travelers found time in their
•
• busy, short summer to experience culture
: outside of Omaha and created life-long •
