Burger King or Grisanti 's? K-Mart or •
the Gap? No, these are not just options oh
where to eat and shop, but also of where to
work. Having a job and making money was
a rewarding experience for mcrst students,
but there were also a few drawbacks.
There were many types of jobs and
positions available and all types of reasons
to apply for them. "I worked at Younkers
• because a lot of my friends worked there,"
said Junior Becky Brownfield. "I loved
working at the JC Penny Portrait Studio
because the kids that came in to get their
pictures taken were so cute," said Senior
Caren Friedman.
Despite getting paid and not hav-
ing to beg the folks for cash, there were a few
drawbacks to being employed. "Sometimes
I got stuck with bad hours, and retail was a
pain when the customers were crabby," said
Brownfield. Many students found it hard to
juggle their jobs and other activities. Hav-
ing to work on Friday and Saturday nights
meant missing football and basketball games,
socializing with friends, and sleep. Jobs also
cut into homework time, although this was
not always a bad thing. "My job gave me an
excuse to procrastinate," said Friedman.
Sophomore Tyson Bartlett got a
few laughs out of his job one Saturday night.
"Some people I work with at Suburban Inn •
Motel found a container of Vies YapoRub,
and it took awhile to clean up our actions,"
he said.
Working part time jobs and earn-
ing money were very important issues in
most students lives. Many hours were spent
slaving away for money that could be spent
on anything the worker wanted. It made the
item all the more meaningful when it was
