II day you had been dr.eading that one class. You walked
A
1n and you waited for your name to be called. Your
body suddenly broke 1nto a sweat and your knees began
to shake. For some students this was what happened when
they had to give a presentation.
"I hate giving presentations because I'm really shy, and
I hate how everyone in the class is just staring at you," senior
Sarah S-turm said.
For others, l1ke junior Dan Sobczyk, presentations
were not anything to worry about.
"Presentations are fun to give because it IS something
that you don't do every day, and I like doing something different
once in awhile," Sobczyk said.
It was not unusual f or students to give presentations
in such classes as English, speech, and debate. Whether in a group
or alone, students had different preferences when 1t came to
giving a presentation.
"In debate I would rather give a presentation alone,
because I know exactly what is going on, and I have all the
control," junior Melissa Manahan said.
Sophomore Bre-t-t Weaver was the opposite and
preferred working in a group with h1s peers.
"I like g1v1ng presentations in a group because it is so
much more relaxed, and you don't have to do as much work,"
Weaver said.
After completing the presentation, knees began to
stop shaking and sweaty palms began to dry. A sense of pride
and accomplishment of a JOb well done, along with rel1ef, could be
seen as the teacher scribbled the final cntique notes. Th1s would
be enough until the next name was called to the front of the
class.
