he volleyball teams achieved its goal of a winning season.
"We put a lot of individual effort in and came out with a pretty
good record," sophomore Alyx Trites said.
The reserve team, led by Julie Splittgerber, dominated with an
outstanding 15-5 record. Valiant efforts from each teammate
contributed to the success.
""'"~~~we needed teamwork, we used it to the max,"
ore Charlotte Belk, who averaged six kills a game, said
r fellow players.
The will to improve and become a better player also added to
the team's chemistry. Trites 's consistent serving guided the
reserve team to victories throughout the season, yet she still felt
the "threat" of other girls being moved up to play over her.
Sophomore Shelby Sempeck found that the best way for her
to deal with the pressures was to listen to her coach.
"Our coach did a great job of teaching us new skills and
helped us stay on our feet by offering words of encouragement
whenever we needed it," Sempeck said.
The freshman team finished with a 19-6 record. Freshmen
Haley Stehlik and Rachel Bailey found that through the support
and guidance of both coaches, Erin Kasner and Joan Murray,
the team as a whole became stronger and more triumphant.
"I think I improved a lot," Bailey said. "The coaches showed us
what we did wrong and helped us fix it."
Bailey's strong, consistent serving led the team to victories
against both Lincoln Southeast and Omaha Burke.
The pressure felt by freshman Alyssa Hinze led to a season
high of ten kills during her "favorite" game versus Lincoln Pius at
the Millard South Invite.
According to the players, both teams worked hard all season
to improve, and it showed with their final winning records.
