or many students, school did not
end at 3 p.m. It ended some-
where around 5 p.m. or later.
Students involved in sports stayed
many extra hours at school. Due to
incomplete fields and tennis courts,
both baseball and tennis teams had to
find elsewhere to practice. The
baseball tecrrn used the gym and
even the parking lot, while tennis
players used the gym and Millard
South's courts. Golfers practiced at
Skyline , Cross Country at Walnut
Grove Park and Swimmers were bused
to Montclair Community Center and
Millard South .
Another group of students found
after school were the cheerleaders
and the flag and dance squad. These
girls worked hard year-round.
Not only students stayed after
school. Teachers also could be found
doing anything from attending faculty
meetings to giving students extra
help.
Custodians were a major part of
the school. Once school let out,
custodians could be seen emptying
trash cans, vacuuming classrooms and
many other helpful jobs.
Coaches and club sponsors also
put in a lot of work and effort.
Coaches had to attend athletic
practices along with their teams and
spent a lot of time preparing their
players for games and competition.
Club sponsors held meetings either
weekly or monthly after school, so
they spent time preparing for these.
As one can see, for some students
and staff, school was more than the
usual eight hour day.
