p
reseason practices began early in the
summer for both the boys and girls
cross country teams. The hard work
seemed to pay off with the boys team going
to state for the first time. "They qualified for
state by placing second in their district," said
Coach Neeman. "and at state they finished
ninth in a very fine field."
The girls team had their best performance
at the Bryan Invitational where they finished
within the shortest amount of time for the
year. Their team was lead by Elaine Banks and
Amy Pohlman.
Coach Neeman summarized the girls
season by saying, "The girls team was in a
rebuilding year as our top four runners were
three freshmen and one sophomore. With a
little hard work and dedication they could have
a very fine team the next couple of years."
The success of the boys team was at its
peak at the Roncalli Invitational, where they
won the team championship. They placed
second at the district meet, which qualified
them for state competition.
The boys team feels as positive about next
years competition as the girls team. Junior
Frank Guffey stated, "We'll have four returning
varsity runners so I think next year we'll be
just as strong."
Both Guffey and Senior Marc LeFebvre led
the boys team. -
