Students Use
Semesters
for College
S
panish, French, German, and Latin are
four foreign languages whose populari-
ty have grown and become known as
"four more semesters needed for college".
Junior Connie Kramer said, "I really didn't
know how serious people were when they said
more and more colleges were requiring two to
three years of a foreign language, so I figured
starting my junior year I better get my two
years of another language in."
One thing used to promt)te the different
-
languages was by the clubs that were formed."
-- - Said teacher and department head Leon May,
F .
"It not only brought together students with a
common interest on a social basis, but it also
I / ' ffM
helped to get more kids interested."
Only two languages had sponsors to form
clubs, German and Spanish. Thus each had
their share of excitement ranging from visit-
ing restaurants, ice skating, and holdir;g a
Christmas party.
The German club sponsored the Christ-
mas party for German foreign exchange stu-
dents living in Omaha and those students who
were in German clubs in Omaha schools. Thir-
ty people came to sit and visit with each of
the exchange students and helped themselves
to a wide assortment of refreshments.
For every language there was a different
atraction, and no matter what their reason for
taking a foreign language, students found each
one to be a test of their abilities.
