Money
Exceeds Goal
For Charity
-Jennifer Dewey-
Getting hands on experience was
one of the many things that a member
of DECA gained from being involved. That
meant being able to handle a situation that
might come up when a person was really on
the job.
The charity for which DECA raised
money for was Bergan Mercy 's Respite
care center. This center is designed to care
for people who need 24 hour supervision.
Money was raised by having a car
wash and sponsoring a bowl-a-thon . Over
$600 was raised, which was more than
their goal of $500.
Other activities included ice skat-
ing, snow skiing , and sending Christmas
cards to the men and women in Desert
Shield ..
Each member earned an amount of
money that went to help pay for group
activities or for the competitions.
District competition was held at
Southroads Mall . The National competi-
tion was held in Denver, Colorado. At the
competitions the memb!;rs got hands on
experience and found out what would
happen when certain problems came up on
the job.
This year there were 130 mem-
: bers in DECA, and more people partici- ,
pated in the activities . There was a lot ac-
' complished in the activities because many
members were involved. 'There has been
a lot of enthusiasm for all of the
activities." said co-president Julie Wilwer -
ding.
