The Boys Track team practiced
After taking the hand off at the Millard North all year long to prepare for the State
Relays , Freshman Jay Uphoff concentrates on Meet and placed 12th at State.

ior Brian Augustine who had a record
breaking third at 1 :56 .44 in the 800 ,
Sophomore Paul Zorad took third in
high jump, and 1600 relay team of
Augustine, Junior Ben Grojean, Se-
niors Mike Stemm, and Bryan Cranny
took fifth. Cranny also took fifth in the
400 . "We all worked together, and
hard. I guess I'm really excited that
we went to State", said Sophomore
Brent Uptagraft.
The Freshmen and sopho-
more teams both placed first in the
Metro Invitational, and the varsity
placed 13th. At the varsity Metro
Meet, Augustine placed third in the
high jump. Placing fifth in the 1600
relay's were Grojean and Augustine,
Cranny, and Stemm.
Metro's for the sophomore
and freshmen teams also went well.
_ Sophomores Steve Cacioppo took first
in long jump, Paul Zorad won first in
high jump, and the 3200 relay team of
Sophomores Nate Frazier , Aaron John-
son , Matt Topping, and Bryce Penke
took first. Freshman Todd Hilkemann-
first in 1600 , Rod Nietfeldt took first in
pole vault, and Jay Uphoff took first in
300 intermediate hurdles, "I got
involved in track because it improved
my athletic ability and it gave me a
chance to meet new people." said
Junior Jon Waller.
The team placed third at the
District Invitational, and the State
qualfiers were Juniors Jeff Cizek, Au-
gustine, Grojean, Cranny, Stemm,
Johnson and Zorad.
It was this kind of achieving that
made the training and practices
worthwhile, even those done in cold,
rainy, windy, and snowy weather.
