• Imagine calling into a radio station expecting to win a small prize, but then winning
an all- expense paid Homecoming evening. That was exactly what happened to Sophomore Jeff •
Slobotski. He was li stening to KT I 03 and was the tenth caller. Jeff was awarded everything
he needed for Homecoming including dinner at the French Cafe, flowers, candy, and a limo ride.
There was only one problem. He didn't have a date until Junior Stephani Knittel's
mom called into the radio station and that solved that. The limo fell through, but the radio
station picked them up in its black KT 103 mini van. "It was weird riding in the v~n because
it was all stripped down inside, and you could see the metal. It was quite different from a limo,"
Slobotski said.
The ride in the van was the kick off of the night, but the official start of the evening
didn' t begin for them and others until they entered through the front doors of the school on Sept
18. Bright colors, li ghts, balloons and clowns in the gymnasium and 9-10 commons area
welcomedstudemts "Under the Big Top," the theme selected by the student council.
The highlights of t h evening included real life clowns who made
such things as flower animal balloons. The annual slide show was
presented after roy- alty and refreshments such as sno-cones,
cotton candy, and pop were served at the concession stand.
Then, at 10:30 p.m., royalty were presented.
K i n g was Senior Steve Cacioppo and Queen was
Senior Kathy Kearns. Senior Adam Bealle was
• named Duke, and Duchess was Senior
eKia House. Junior Mike Gdovic was
selected Prince and Junior Dacia Knudson
was named Princess. Sophomore royalty
were Ryan Felton and Crystal Hayden while •
freshmen were Spencer Petersen and Heidi
Haynes.
The night was special to others, too.
"Seeing everybody there and dressed up was the
best part of the night," Senior Marti"Crawford
said. On the other hand, Senior LeeAnn Re said,
"The best part was my date because he was gor-
• geous." Unfortunately criticism about the theme
"Underthe Big Top" did arise. "I didn't really like
the theme; it was a little on the childish side and a little corny," Junior
Jenny Niederhaus said.
Despite the cold, rainy weather many people still attended.
"We had good participation, no problems, the theme was good, and the
decorations were excellent," Adviser Dave Buckley said.
So as students slowly left this night of nostalgia and as balloons
were deflated and decorations were taken down, those who took part
in the year's first "ball" left with mostly fond memories after the "tent" •
came down.GI
