I
· year when the new building
was finally completed, but
all lived through it and it was
definitely worth it.
The first section of the
building that opened was the
classroom and locker area.
This meant that to get from a
class in the 11 I 12 section to
the 9110 section, a person had
to walk outside because they
were not connected. The
weather did not always
cooperate, one student
recalled, "I remember the first
day over there, it was pouring
down rain ."
This went ·on through the
winter and on February 10, the
opening between the two
parts was opened. "It takes
more time to walk through the
building then it did to walk
outside, but I wouldn't go
back to it," commented Junior
Laurie Goraczkowski.
To test this, yearbook staff
member, Geri Mines walked
from a classroom in the ·11 I 12
section, to her locker, then to
the industrial arts rooms in the
9 I 10 section. It took th~ full
five minutes between classes
walking casually and without
stopping to talk with friends.
However, a few weeks later
the art and band rooms were
opened and shortened the
distance.
The auditorium and pool
still had a few minor touches
and the cafeteria was finished
but never opened.
Scaffolding was used to reach the
higher places in the auditorium.
